Volunteer Caregiver Coaches Needed at Community Hospice & Palliative Care Bookmark

Volunteer Caregiver Coaches are being recruited at Community Hospice & Palliative Care. Caregiver Coaches will be professionally trained to provide one-on-one support to family caregivers. Coaches will provide caregivers with support, knowledge, skills and tools to achieve a balanced lifestyle while caring for another person.

Community Hospice is seeking volunteers with excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to listen and be supportive; the ability to maintain confidentiality; and with the time to interact with caregivers weekly, either in person or by phone. Coaches must be willing to commit to this volunteer assignment for one year.

Coaches will:

  • Begin with a in-person meeting to get to know the caregiver
  • Agree to a weekly follow up schedule.
  • Listen to caregiver's experience, providing support and encouragement
  • Be an optimistic, empathetic and non-judgmental listener
  • Be familiar with the caregiver--What You Need Guide is provided. Coaches will be willing to discuss options, but not make decisions for the caregivers
  • Attend monthly team meetings to provide opportunities to discuss experiences and share concerns
  • Submit monthly visit notes.

For more information and to apply to become a Caregiver Coach, contact Kate Ray, Community Health Coordinator, Community Hospice & Palliative Care at (904) 824-8203.
