The Florida Department of Transportation will begin construction of the Crossroads Trailhead and a four-mile segment of the Palatka to St. Augustine Trail in September. Located north of State Road 207 near Vermont Heights, the $1.1 million trailhead will serve as a bicyclist and pedestrian access point to the multi-use Palatka to St. Augustine Trail. The new $5.8 million segment will connect Putnam County to an existing trail in Spuds. Construction of the $6.9 million projects is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2018.
The trail head and segment are both components of the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop, a developing 260-mile trail network that connects St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, Brevard and Volusia counties. The River-to-Sea Loop is a component of the East Coast Greenway, extending from Florida to Maine. Funding for the trailhead and rail trail segment is provided by the Shared-Use Non-motorized Trail Program.
St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Shaver, dressed as Queen Isabella will hold story time for small and young readers. The authors of both books will be on-hand for book signings.
